
Theory
and Hazard Perception Test (HPT)
You will have to answer 50 multiple choice
theory test questions. Your responses are made by touching the
screen or using the mouse on the computer at the test centre.
You must achieve 43 correct answers (85%) to pass this part of the
test.
Having submitted the answers to the above
questions. you will have 3 minutes before the HPT starts.
You will be shown 14 video clips of 1 minute each. The videos
show everyday driving. Candidates can score up to 5 marks for
the 15 scoreable hazards. (one clip has two hazards). The pass
mark for this part of the test is 44 out of a possible score
of 75.
The Theory test certificate is valid
for 2 years in which time you must pass the practical test.
Otherwise another Theory test must be taken.

Practical Driving Test
At the beginning of the test you will
be required to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 - 21metres
(depending on plate type, since 2001).Before moving off on the
test you will be asked two show me/tell me questions. The test
will last approximately 40 minutes, consist of driving on a
variety of roads including dual carriageways, over a course
of about 6.5 miles. During the test cadidates will be expected
to carry out two set exercises including reversing and possibly
an emergency (controlled stop). Candidates should also expect to be asked
to stop at the side of the road and move off again several times
during the test.
Driving test candidates should aim to
make as few driving faults as possible. A high standard of driving
is expected and is needed to pass the practical test.
DSA fee £62.00 weekdays; £75.00 weekends (candidates should seek advice from their instructor before booking a test).
Mock Tests
Apollo Driving school carry out periodic
mock tests to ensure candidates are ready to take the practical
test. Candidates must have a realistic chance of passing before
booking a test.
