New European Driving Licence

A new European Driving Licence which is being issued EU wide as part of the third EU Driving Licence Directive came into force in the UK on the19th January 2013. This means all new licences applied for; provisional and full will conform to the new rules harmonizing all licences issued across the EU. In theory, in the future EU agencies will be able to share data. For example, if an EU citizen commits an offence and is banned from driving in the issuing state then the ban could be upheld across the whole of the EU. Today this is not possible as agencies refuse to share data.
